Biography: 

Betel Hailu joined the Internet Society in December 2013 as the Axis Project Coordinator for the Africa Regional Bureau and is now the Communications Coordinator for the African Regional Bureau.

Ms. Hailu graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from Addis Ababa University (AAU) and a Master of Arts Degree in Sociology from Indra Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). She has served as the Head of Communication Department for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Delegation to the African Union (AU) and International Organizations (IO) and also worked as a Project Coordinator under the Protection of Basic Service/Social Accountability Program managed by GTZ-IS and Center of Development Consulting (CDC). The Program was financed by a Multi-Donors Trust Fund, which was managed by the World Bank. In addition to this, she has worked as a Project Coordinator and Senior Researcher at Center for Development Consultancy (CDC), a consultancy firm located in Addis Ababa. Finally yet importantly, Betel has had diversified experience working with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Parliament Capacity Building Project and the African Network for the Prevention and Protection against Child Abuse and Neglect (ANPPCAN) – Ethiopia Chapter.

Betel has an excellent command of written and spoken English, French and Amharic languages.

Ms. Hailu is based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
