Senior Manager, Membership Services

About the Position:
The Senior Manager is responsible for providing leadership and management, support and nurturing of ISOC’s membership. The incumbent in this role is responsible for developing, translating and administering short and long term organizational goals into holistic outreach and engagement tactics, initiatives and programs that develop and support the mission of the Internet Society via our membership. In summary, the incumbent should be the face of the Internet Society to our membership and the face of membership into the Internet Society.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties include, but are not necessarily limited to:

  • Primary focus will be on the Organizational Members of ISOC with a broader view to all Membership and Supporters (Members, Donors, Followers, etc.).
  • Manage day to day aspects of current and future member programs, projects and initiatives.
  • In collaboration with the CAO and other executives and areas around the organization, develop strategic initiatives that support and nurture our member relationships.
  • Propose, develop and execute new member programs, work plans, timelines and high-quality project deliverables.
  • Lead and support our communication and engagement with the Organization Member Advisory Council (OMAC).
  • Ensure program offerings and outcomes are assessed using appropriate program evaluation methods.
  • Provide leadership to Membership Services team in all planning and activities.
  • Participate in planning, content development and management of membership strategies and tactics.
  • Work with the members of the Communications & Membership Services teams to ensure the effective management of regular communications to supporters and members.
  • Write articles and regular relevant updates for membership publications, web/social media and other outreach opportunities.
  • Coordinate departmental financial budgets; ensure adherence to budget guidelines and objectives.
  • Maintain membership and other community data in the Aptify Association Management System (AMS) as required.
  • Serve as membership leader and expert, providing support for ISOC members, responding to all membership enquiries personally and via team.
  • Using analysis of membership data identify opportunities to better support current membership and attract new membership.
  • Promote value of membership, including communities of interest and education and networking opportunities.
  • Develop a list of critical membership metrics and develop the plans to monitor, measure and respond to them.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the program departments to address the needs of specialized communities within the program areas.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, 8+ years of association, non-profit-related or business-to-business experience; involved with international organizations or companies, preferably in the Internet/telecommunications sectors.
  • Experience in membership and donor support activities.
  • Experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating membership outreach initiatives.
  • Experience in digital communications (including email marketing, website maintenance etc.) and on-line community development.
  • Familiarity with web analytics and data driven decision-making.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, fluency (verbal and written) in English. Proficiency in one other language preferably French or Spanish preferred.
  • Excellent writing skills, able to create, approve and manage content production.
  • Ability to handle and prioritize many projects concurrently, good attention to detail and timelines.
  • Ability to keep accurate records for reporting by using organization systems and databases.
  • Strong computer skills and familiarity with electronic communication applications and tools essential.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in cross-cultural environments and effectiveness in managing collaborations between individuals with diverse professional and cultural backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in using e-mail, Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with senior-level business professionals.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
